Li Naiwei
male, was born in 1957, is a native of Chongqing, Sichuan Province. He is now member of the Chinese Artists¡¯ Association, committee member of the Chinese Painting Committee and executive member of its Wuhan branch; he is rated as a national first-class artist and is a painter at the Wuhan Painting Studio.

Li is fond of painting at a very young age. In his youth and teenage period, his paintings had already been shown in national art expositions. After his graduation from the Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in 1978, he was seconded to the Wuhan Painting Studio as a professional painter. In his art career, Li has won many prizes at provincial as well as national level. Among these, his elaborate style painting ¡° Mountain Chrysanthemum¡± was awarded Silver prizes at the National Chinese Figure Painting Exhibition; ¡°Birthday¡± was awarded the Gold prize at the 9th Hubei Art Work Exhibition and the Silver prize at the 9th National Art Exhibition. Many of his works and art achievement were published in national art magazines, painting catalogues and art directories.

Li excelled in elaborate Gongbi figure painting. He has a firm grasp of the basic painting skills and is particularly strong at composition. His works are unique in their thoughtful composition with fine and elegant setting together with a realistic manner. The themes that he paints vary from historical figures to modern woman, while the way he delineates has the power to provoke thoughts of the viewers. In recent years, he has created a series of works on the theme of modern woman in a surrealistic way. Those paintings have not only enriched the varieties of expressions of elaborate style Chinese figure painting but reflected the strong will and persistence of the oriental artists in exploring ways for reconciling the Chinese and Western traditions. Li¡¯s art and achievement have caught the attention in the art circle both at home and abroad.
